Is the main diet for many Northwest Coastal Nations. The Halibut resides in deep water, usually eating crab, shell fish and any other sizable deep sea dwelling creatures.
As a commercial salmon and halibut fishermen, I was frequently exposed to the halibut fishery as well as a delicious food resource. Long lining is the main operation when fishing for halibut and the first couple times I had the opportunity to experience this fishery, the crew pulled up a large 5 foot long, 120 lbs halibut over the rail. I had never seen a fish this large in all my life and instantly I had the inspiration to paint this magnificent beast.
